Database Editing

Book Database Editing Services

Applied Information Sciences Corp. maintains an extensive database of book catalog information that can be used to enhance any library or bookseller’s database.  This extensive database together with AIS’s proprietary database editing tools, enables AIS to turn virtually any database into a comprehensive and usable source of book catalog information.

Editing Existing Database Entries

AIS uses a multistage approach to editing existing entries in existing book database records.

  1. Fill in missing and invalid ISBN and LCCN and put into correct format.
  2. Match against the specialized AIS  book database and correct the following primary information fields including:
    • Author
    • Call number
    • ISBN
    • Language
    • LCCN
    • Pages
    • Subjects
    • Title
  3. Standardize, as necessary, all fields to conform to authority file and standards.
  4. Remove all extraneous data not required for target audience.
  5. Analyze all fields across the entire database to ensure the union catalog is Complete, and Consistent.

Adding New Book Records

You can provide AIS an ISBN list and AIS will create a complete book catalog database for those ISBN.  The database will be extracted from the AIS central database and will be as complete as possible.  If you do not have an ISBN list, you can provide some general guidance on additional books to be added to your database, and AIS will extract the book information from the AIS central database and, again, create a database for you.

The Final Database Can Be In Many Formats.

AIS can send you the corrected and new data in one of several formats:

  • Microsoft Access database
  • Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
  • MARC records
  • ASCII text file
  • AIS format for use with one or more of the AIS book industry products
